Elsa Grace: Why I Slut Strand
Ello my sweet SSS. If ya don’t already know me, I’m @elsagracew : the “founder” of this here society. I was born and raised in a little ski shop in Crested Butte by two ski bum parents who moved to CO in their 20s to live the dream. When I’m not spreading the word of good strands, I am designing outerwear alongside the incredible Spyder Freeski, Saga, & Dakine crew as well as creating art for mittens, masks, and whatever else I get my hands on. And to make my life more hectic, I am the outerwearwear buyer for my Mum’s store @butteandco in Crested Butte . #workaholic... But, my work is only a small piece of who I am. In 2007, my brother Asher Crank passed away from a brain injury training for a slope-style competition in Copper. My world was shattered. But, when I lost Ash, I gained a whole band of sisters who he called his best friends. They took me in, pushed me, and made me fall back in love with skiing. Because of those girls, I made the decision to dedicate my life to mentor young girls and be that pillar of strength that was given to me. That decision earned me the nickname “Mom”. Mom to my CB girlies, Mom to my Chi Os, Mom to my band of Lost Boys.
I now Slut Strand as a way to cultivate a community where EVERYONE, and I do mean EVERYONE is welcome to my party. I don’t care if you’re skier, snowboarder, a dude, or a chick- a slut strand is a slut strand. Use them as the link that binds us all together in a cheeky platform where we get to push, motivate, and remember that this life down here is a party. So, I crack open a Banquet and cheers you for being here. I have no idea what I’m doing, all I know is I’m gonna make it fun. Cheers, my sweet Sluts. Xoxo, Els aka Mom.
